Removing stripes from maxima
#2
Depending on how well they're stuck on there you can use various methods.
Mine peeled right off once I got them started with my fingernail.
If not try a heatgun (or hairdryer) to heat up portions of the stripe and then peel it off. Make sure not to leave it on one part of the paint for very long (especially the heatgun) as it can burn the paint...just keep it in constant motion. Don't get too scared though, I think it would take an aweful lot to burn the paint, but there's no sense in tempting fate.
If all else fails you can use this rubber eraser wheel that can be attached to a drill. I'm not sure where to get one of these...you could try an autoparts store or just ask here if you actually need this method (you probably won't). Again, keep in constant motion as this too will burn through the paint. You should be able to just run it along the stripe without stopping and it will come right off. I don't particularly like this method unless the stripe is VERY hard to get off as it makes quite a mess that will need to be cleaned off along with the pin stripe glue.
Whatever method you choose you will have to clean off the glue (and if applicable, the eraser material). For my car I used some spray on turtle wax bug and tar remover I got at walmart...it was a pain in the a$$. Since then I got a job at a used car dealership where I have removed many a pin stripe. I use mother's prewax cleaner, and I think it is much better. You should be able to get it at most autoparts places, although I'm not certain. You will also need some terrycloth towels (at least two...one to put it on and one to get it off). You can get a big bag of them in the automotive section of walmart for a couple of bucks. This will take some elbow grease and my fingers always feel a little raw afterwards...definitely worth the effort IMO though.
Wow, that was long.
Good luck!!!
