EBay mods
EBay mods
After reading the Mod sticky and going 10 pages deep in threads, I never saw much discussion on cheap ebay mods. I am considering buying an intake and a front strut bar, but I figured I would ask the pros if they help or are they just a pile of crap. I also noticed that most of the intakes don't specify what type of CAI they are. After reading posts I am convinced Place Racing Style is better than injen style CAIs. Just a random note ... I read somewhere that cheap injens may result in loss in HP.
I wish AEM made intakes for maxima ... it would end many questions.

103K and still running well

It is not a matter of the products being sold on e-bay. I bought my Tial wastegate and interooler on ebay. You can buy almost any name brand car modification on ebay as well as the off brand knock off's. Now if your asking about unproven ebay snake oil mods then yes, stay away.
Every product as to be looked at independently. If the product is an essential part of the car such as an ECU tune, pistons, rods,or suspension then I would always go with a proven product which is usually a name brand. When it comes to things like strut bars or intake piping they are not mechanically or electrically complex parts and a 19.99 sturt bar is not going to be substantially different than a $200 strut bar (unless you are a serious track addict).
The example given of buying the kncok off intake and just replacin the cheap filter is a good example. The piping is basically the same on a $200 intake as it is on a $50 intake, but the important part is the filter. That is where shopping ebay for off brand products can save alot of money and produce the same results.
Do research on everything you buy....doing research is not posting a "who has X product, what does X product do, and where can I get it" thread. Search other car forums that would be using the same product, donating the $20 and get search ability, and google is your friend.
