clunking noise in tranny!

Hope everybody had a very Merry Christmas!

I hear a clunk whenever I shift from P to R or from drive to P.The car runs fine and does not slip. The clunk is only when I shift and not when running.

Any help is appreciated, A very Happy new year to All.

TIA,
Jay

When was the last time you had a tranny flush?

Is it hard to shift from P to R? and when it does shift if gives you a big clunk? If thats the case its just the cable that gets caught or its stretched. Ever stop your car and put it in park and not put the handbrake on and you feel the car move about 2 inches forward until the transmission catches it? That causes the shifter cable to stretch and makes it harder to shift out of park...

Solution... every time you put your car in park, keep your foot on the brake and pull on the emergency brake and then take your foot off the brake.

Ant96GLE,

thanks,
I never used the hand brake for the fear of breaking the cable, very hard and expensive to replace.I guess I'll have to use it from now on.

2DaMax,

12,000 Miles ago, complete flush and refill at home.

BadKarma99-4spd,

I agree with you, Happens only when cold.It should be 68 deg this friday, will check it then.

thank you all !
