Is the intake and exhaust valve clearance check required on the '98 Maxima?

I'm assuming that the shims may wear over time and may need to be checked/replaced every 60K or 100K.

save your energy.....they might need to be checked at 200K....and even then will probably be fine.

 

The time and energy required to change them would not be worth the benefit. It would take less time and possibly cost less money to put in another engine if valve clearance became a problem.

 

No offense, but I thought that the shims are probably hardened to a specific hardness less than the cams, the idea being that the shims will wear first.

You probably won't find any valves out of spec, but you could find shims that are worn. (Once the outer surface is worn thru, it starts to wear the cams.)

I owned a SHO that needed this shim inspection at 60K - I was wondering if anyone new about the Maxima shims requiring inspection.
