For all of you that have dash kits
hey guys, just got a dash kit in the mail, just wondering whether you peel off the wood/black dash and then apply the new one, or do you just slap it on top of the wood? thanks a lot

I just purchased the same but have not installed it as of yet. I talked to the seller before I purchased and asked the same question. Also, I have just put new molded carpet(I know that sounds funny)and had to undress the inside of my 96 Max. The factory wood trim in mine is plastic and there is nothing to remove. It's just plastic colored like burl wood. So to answer your question, just place it over the factory stuff. I hoped this helps. If you ever want to remove your old carpet and put in new, let me know. Boy did I get an education.

1 of my top factory wood grain pieces was coming off to so my friends desides to use a hair dryer and a screw driver to take it off andi Underneath it was the color or my entire dash board so im guessing take it off first so you don't got it sticking out correct me if im wrong though.

mine is wood and i have an SE. I guess im just wondering if it is possible to take the wood off.. mine is in terrible condition (i dont know wtf the person who had this car before me did) and i dont want to put it on top of the wood, i think that would look pretty cheesy
maybe a hair dryer to melt the glue and some thin wire to get the wood off or something??? like shaving the MAXIMA off your trunk? it cant be that hard to get it off..

you dont have to take the wood off if you dont want to, i just think it will look retarded if you put it right over the wood.. and thats like painting right over old paint without sanding first

Update
just bumping this up quick in case any one was interested (and everyone who posted in this thread originally), this is how it all turned out... btw turns out the person before me acutally put a wood dash kit, and it looks like they did it years ago this is why it was cracking/lifting and spotting. anyways, enjoy:
I think it looks better than the wood, gives it some more contrast.
Also, you might be able to tell i messed up (went to quick) right around the cig lighter.. got excited i guess

I had a wood dash before i put on the brushed aluminum. when i installed the kit i took off the pieces that would show through the wood and pained them with matte black spray paint, then a few coats of clear. no one has ever noticed... it looks just like plastic
