Belt tension too loose...

I changed my alternator and put a new belt up, tightened the little tensioner and pulley, but its still loose and squeals like a pig at 1000-1500 rpms.... any suggestions on getting that tighter?

thanks
Jeff

you could make the tension tighter to within specs, but don't overtighten. And whatever you do, DO NOT use any belt spray to silence the noise. I learned that the hard way one time in high school, b/c I used belt spray to silence the noise, next thing the belt flew off

Anyway here's a post from the How-To's regarding belts & tension

Are you sure you have enough tension on the power steering belt.... maybe that's squeling instead.
