Emission Warning Light (Advice)

Emission Warning Light (Advice)
I've got a 95 maxima with 117k on it. My Emissions warning light turned on. If i'm correct the car is scheduled for maintainence in 3k. Is there any reason not to get the 120k checkup early and some how get the emissions warning thingy fixed.
Also does anybody have any advice on whether this is a cheap or expensive fix?

I've never heard of an emmisions light. What exactly does it say? Where on the dash is it located? What color?
As far as the 120k tuneup, don't take it to the dealer. They'll bend you right over on that one. You could probably handle it yourself, but if not take it to a good independent shop...this does not include pepboys etc. I don't believe there is any emmisions equipment that is general maintence...just replace it as needed.

The "Emissions Light" its the far most right light. (The manual called it something like the emissions warning light).
It has something that looks like a pipe and the words check written on it.
Also as far as getting to the ECU alla FAQ ... me "screws" dont seem to have slots in them as in they are flat on the top... should I just try to pop them out? I managed to twist one around a bit but couldnt figure out if i should rip them out???

My guess is the poster is referring to the MIL or service engine soon. I don't think I have a lamp with a "pipe" or anything like that on it.
As far as the MIL goes, I would say the 60k service does not cure it. The 60k service is over $300 I believe. The boost sensor etc. that cures the MIL lamp also costs over $300.
I like to do things myself but plan on having the dealership do the 60k service at 120--time factor. I'm not even sure if I can do the plugs or not, maybe if I tried I'd see it's easy. I might attempt the starter at some point since people say it's easy. But I wasted 3 hours or so trying to fix the EVAP stuff and had to pay the dealer anyway, so that's why I recommend letting the dealer do it. You know, sometimes there's a label saying "no user serviceable parts inside" on things, and sometimes it's just to scare people from touching it. I believe the EVAP is truly just one of those things, the dealer gets it right on the first try, we do the same and then the da** light comes back again. my .02

That's definitely the CEL.
I'm not sure if this is linked in the faqs, but it has pictures and everything...only reason you woudn't have the same set up is if you have a 99. http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html.
