Read the how-to's. Best explanation and pictures are right there. Directions are pretty much cut hole in airbox.

perform a dyno pull with Stock air intake and then with the HAI and then you choose!

this [noob] question may be in the wrong section, but i thought HAI did the opposite of a CAI, which adds cooler air making for more/quicker combustion. So if i'm not mistaken, a HAI subtracts performance, unless you need less combustion, then it's preferable.

if so...why HAI on an otherwise stock engine?

For the noise, so you can at least sound like you're going faster.

Yeah he's right. I didn't have time to spend removing the stock airbox, so I went with the HAI. It sounds beast, but I have to admit I did lose some low-end power. Maybe its cause my front tires have .1% tread left and my Knock Sensor is shot.

i believe that with a short intake you lose top end and gain on the bottom, with a long one the opposite but don't quote me on that.

EDIT: you can quote me, i've done some extra reading
just don't think i'm talking about a cai...

always, unless...there's a member here or on nico that made a hetshield from the stock airbox over his short intake and made some temp measurments. the intake temp dropped considerably you'll just have to do a search for that.

EDIT: found it on nico, i'll give a link even though it might be deleted - hope it doesn't since it's something to learn from http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/281291
