I was driving threw town today whne a guy with no brakelights stopped in front of me. I slammed on my brakes and i heard a thumping sound coming from the brakes. Is this bad or just part of the ABS. Ive never had ABS or power brakes. My first car was a 70 Chevelle.

When you put the ignition key to the "on" position do you see the ABS light come on? if so, its the ABS kicking in, and that's normal.
