Battery Draining Problem!

I've got a 1997 Maxima, GLE.

My problem is that I've got about a 3 amp drainage happening continuely on my battery. I've pulled every fuse and relay possible. The only thing that I can think of pulling the amps would be the radio, since it was the first thing to start going funky when my car was dying. It started with my speakers going out, first left, then right, then rear, then all together. After that episode, all my speakers work fine now. The brake light and battery light flickered on and off during drive time at one point.

If anyone knows what could be pulling 3 amps or if you know how to dismantle the stereo, both would be very helpful!

Thanks for anything you can offer!

You probably have a dying alternator.

Nope, we checked that. It's not the problem. There's something pulling a constant 3 amps from the battery. The battery dies about 4 hours of draining.

Any ideas?

do you maybe have a bunch of acidic buildup between the positive and negative posts on the battery. I know that that can cause a slow drain on the batt. If so clean it with bakingsoda and water. But make sure not to get any bakingsoda in the battery cause it will ruin it.

I had a bad drain and it was actually a defective battery.. check the simplest thing first I guess.

i had the same problem as intel, it seems they pro-rated it wrong or something, i dont know that much about batteries, but it sounds exactly like your problem. test it with another battery before you go messing around with anything big. good luck

We've tested the battery and it holds a charge no problem. It must be something from the elec system drawing those amps. Maybe a crossed wire or melted wire.

Any other ideas?

The only thing we can think of is the Stereo, but we can't seem to figure out how to remove it. If someone can direct me to a place that explains how to remove at 97 Stock stereo that'd be awesome.
