there are three sensors on the car if i remeber correctly,

The two upstream sensors(one per cylinder bank) and one downstream sensor after the catalytic converter.

Not sure what you mean by banks

Banks mean either the front set of cylinders or the rear set of cylinders

duh, how the hell didn't I pick up on that. The Haynes manual does not tell how to tell between the two sets of banks however.

I don't think the bank numbers change...

Here's the cylinders/banks from a 97 FSM:

If your 99 is Fed Spec (3 O2 sensors), bank 1 sensor 2 is downstream of the main cat.

If your 99 is Cali Spec (4 O2 sensors), bank 1 sensor 2 is downstream of the pre-cat coming off the rear bank (firewall side) of cylinders.

So my code is for downstream O2 Sensor, I have a cali spec car, oxygensensors.com lists two walker O2 sensors for the car....which to get???

One is part # 250-24284 for 84.50 and the other is # 250-24286.

Also, is the only way to know if I have three or four sensors to get under the car??

If your car is a 99' Cali-spec, you have 4 sensors. Both rear sensors are 4-wire zirconia type.

The reason for the two different p/n is that the length of the potted-in cable is different. Sensor is the same but one cable is 8" longer than the other.

You will have to look under the car and see if the one that has to be replaced has the longer or the shorter cable.

Another question. my code is 0510 Downstream O2 Sensor Max Voltage Monitor Fault.

How do I know which downstream sensor it is? Or do I just have to replace both?

ECM 0510 corresponds to GST P0138 which is bank 1 sensor 2. Rear bank (firewall side) sensor downstream of the cat.

Thank you for the info. Where did that come from? I'd like to read up a bit more.
