Clutch Questions.
Ok, so I know my clutch is slipping. Ive got 120K on the original ![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Basically what Im looking for are reccomendations for clutches, and the reasons why you reccomend.
Also looking for a ballpark figure of how much an install will usually run.
Thanks

Depends on what type of clutch you're looking for. You have any mods?
Unless you're *very* modded, the stock clutch (stay away from key-value clutches) should hold just fine. The ACT (street disc) is a very strong clutch; I recommend it, but a lot of people that drive my car don't like it (too heavy for 'em). Personally, I'm going to try out the exedy clutch when my ACT bites the big one. I've heard good things about them.
As for the install, I'd figure ~$300-400 around me (Poughkeepsie, NY)...don't know what shops are charging in AZ. If you're handy with a wrench and have tools and patience, you could do it yourself. It's not that hard if you're dedicated. I'd recommend renting a tranny jack if you're going that route; it makes the job *much* easier.

You should also mention that a clutch job includes dropping the tranny - and I got my Clutch done the first time for 650 w/ OEM Clutch and PP, resurfaced flywheel and towing from the highway...did it myself the next time for free.
If you are interested in going to the OEM clutch - I have one thats just broken in w/ 4500 miles on it including PP and TO Bearing that I would LOVE to sell now that I have my new clutch in. Lots of guys are happy with the 5th Gen Pressure Plate and 4th gen disk - check it out!

i recently replaced my stock clutch with a Exedy stage 1....works awesome....supposed to be 36% stronger than stock.....dont notice too much of a difference probly because im just used to the new clutch.....install was about 400 and the clutch was 300...so about 700 total....( new gear oil....resurfaced flywheel and install)
since u r gettin ur clutch replaced make sure u order a REAR MAIN SEAL and replace that while u are at it....i dint order mine ahead of time so i couldnt replace it during the clutch install

Hey I had a Centerforce stage 1 clutch for my 90' 240sx. It was the best upgrade I have ever done. It had the best smooth shift I have ever had. I have not bought one yet for my maxima, but I will whent the time comes. For the 240sx it cost $200 for the clutch, another $30 for the bearings, and about $200 in labor. Not sure how much it would cost for maxima. Go Centerforce
