The heat/ac is affecting my lights/engine..why?

I just started my car today and was adjusting the heat/ac. It was on defrost/feet. As my car was on and in park, I switched it to only windshield defrost. The setting was only on 1. I noticed when i switched to only windshield defrost, my rmps jumped about .3-.5 and my lights dimmed quickly. Is this normal? And any idea why it happens? MAybe because of just extra battery usage?

Your ECU will compensate for engine load. Defrost mode runs the A/C system to dehumidify. Your IACV opens slightly to allow for the extra load so your engine idle doesn't drop, a slight increase in RPMs is normal, a decrease in RPMs would be a problem.
