stock is the quietest... i have heard that the apex'i ws is very quiet. http://www.hopupracing.com/apwospmu94ma.html thats only for up to a '96 though... and seeing as you have a '99. most people would tell you to get a custom setup. a b-pipe and a muffler. i just bought a GReddy sp2 for 500 bucks... its kinda quiet, depends on how you drive.

Try to find Apexi World Sport II/I, it is the catback I would want if I had 400 bucks.

The Apexi can be altered to work with the 97-99's. Just have to get an O2 bung created in the midpipe.

just installed my GReddy evo and it sounds beautiful...it is a little more than 400$ but worth it. if $400 is definitly the limit,go to a muffler shop, preferably not a major one like meineke cuz they charge out the a$$. they can usually get it done for $200-300 with muffler. if not i just took off my custom 2.5" cat-back with magnaflow #14829 muffler that you could always buy for about $100 +shipping.

The evo was as well. I can't find any info on a 4th gen evo probably cause they didn't make them. The 4th gen had the sp and the 5th gen had the evo.

Yes, WSP has catbacks. I just installed mine myselft last week. Wasn't too bad of an install ....if you can do the Ypipe install then you can probably do the Catback install. Just get some jackstands and ramps are helpful too.

I ended up getting the Q quiet muffler with a 4" rolled tip. The total was $275 shipped. If I had to do it again I think I would have got a slightly smaller tip. This one looks a little too flashy for my taste. The sound is louder than stock, but not too loud as to be annoying.

If you are actually looking for more power, an exhuast will barely do anything. Look at the Y-pipe and Intake for a quiet performance setup:

Price looks not too high. Does it sound nice. I know that its louder than stock, but is is big noise. And how loud is inside your car??

there is a whole thread about the greddy sp2's for the '97-'99 maximas, i havent read it though, i believe they are going to or already did make them for '97-'99's, im not really sure. if not, im sure you can alter that one slightly to make it fit, seeing as the later 4th gen exhausts are a little bit longer, maybe u can add a pipe or something? i dunno ask around or try to find the thread

?the WS2 just came out recently. The difference between the ws and the ws2 is that the ws2 is all stainless steel I believe where the ws was powdercoated titanium.

This is the only person here that knows what they're talking about... 95/96 exhaust and 97-99 arent exactly the same. First off 95/96's have the rear 02 in the cat, 97-99's have them behind the cat in the B pipe. If you want to make a 95/96 exhaust fit you have to weld in an 02 bung.

If you do the opposite and get a 97-99 exhaust you have to cover up the bung and the exhaust tip is going to stick out about 2" because the 95/96 rear bumper is a little smaller than the 97-99 rear bumper.

Hey Ant, I see your in BK. What kind of dual muffler/exhaust setup is that? Where did you go to get it installed? I already have a Cattman y-pipe and Cat sitting in my garage and i'm looking for a catback system to purchase and than do a one time install. I would prefer a dual muffler but the one on custom maxima is alot.
