Spoiler LED Out

Hi,

I just purchased my Max and the spoiler LED does not work and it looks like the previous owner just reconnected the stock third brake light. Any chance I can swap out a new LED or am I destined to just have a lightless wing? Thanks.

Can the wing be removed? I don't think you can see the high mount lamp on the rear shelf when a wing is installed. The wings were a fad from 1990 to about 1998 or so, and they are now out-of-style, except for stuff like Evos and STi's. If the lamp is out I'd remove it altogether from the trunk lid, because at 25% off the LED costs nearly $130, so why waste money on something like that? my .02

You can also remove the light and fix it. I had some rusted LED leads from water damage. Removing the spoiler was the hardest part.

Thanks for all the help. I couldn't find any info on either 5th or 4th Gen FAQ. I'll see if I can take it off and check all the connections. Also, I have a 96 and mine came with a third brake light. Be careful if you remove it, because I just found out today that the tint people broke one of the tabs that holds it down. POS was rattling, but luckily there was enough tab to push it back in. I hope it stays in.

In mine, the LED leads (or wires) rusted through. I soldered in new ones.
Only four were out. I also heard the resistor can go bad.

you can swap out the red spoiler for either another red one or a clear one. thats what i did. it doesnt fit exactly you have to mod it a little. i drilled 2 small holes and used silocone to seal it up. you dont have to drill holes it was pretty easy. we have 35 leds, 15.5"

heres the install

Wouldn't the 3 tab on work for our cars? It has 60 LEDs and a Cover plate. 60 is a lot. What does the cover plate do? I will try to go measure my spoiler to see if those tabs are off or not.
