anything wrnog with 97 maximas?

someone here told me once to stay away from 97 maximas as they are cali spec or something. Is there anything wrong with the model that year? are 98's that much better? thanks

97 is probably the best year to go with IMO. very few are cali spec too. the 97s have the newer body style (different front and back end) and if you are going to be modding, they have the ability to run an upgraded ECU.

also, i wouldnt worry about cali spec maximas. that just means they have more emissions controls, but nothing to be worried about!

Supposedly one of the years is prone to alternator failure, I think it's 1997. I think 1999's are prone to coil pack failure. I don't know of anything else...other than that they're among the most reliable cars in the world.

the alternators are covered under a recall. Just ask your friendly stealership. At least my 97 alternator was.

I had my alternator replace by the dealer a few months ago, can I get refunded? Any chance of that?

Yeah crappy alternator, but 97 alternator was a recall so you should be able to get a replacement. As far as a refund if you already had it done. You should be able to call Nissan (the company, not dealership) and they will let you know the procedures to get a refund if you paid for your alternator to be replaced. Thats what I did and I got a full refund, but I did it when the recall first happened so not sure if it still works that way.

I prefer the '98 (obviously). It's the newest 4th Gen that isn't crap

The '95-'96s are ok, as long as you don't get hit from behind.

If your car is covered under the recall you can. Call 'em up and give them your VIN to find out.

I got mine relpaced about 150 miles ago...I dont know if its worth all the trouble to go through Nissan, I love my 97,i really like the 98's because of a few minor things such as digital odometer and my faviort color Sterling Mist
