Stereo Volume Problem

I have a '96 Maxima with original stereo (AM/FM with cassette) and the volume has a mind of its own. It works, then doesn't. It will be set and then blast loud and then I can only turn it down to a certain level. It seems to be OK when I first turn it on and then it goes wacko on me. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. You really need to develope a touch with it. It doesn't seem to like sudden motions, so be real slow with it. The worst is when it gets too loud and you can't get it back down. Not sure I would get a new HU just to have it do the same thing. Unless you can get it cheap.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will run by a car stereo place and see what they say. Probably say I need one of their nice new fancy stereos, I bet!
