ebay front bumpers
Has anyone purchased a 97-99 front bumper on ebay? I want to get going on my conversion from 96 to 97 and want to see if its worth getting it. Around here junkyards want 300 for the front and rear. Ebay sells them for 200 shipped to your door for both front and rear.

thanks for the headsup on this...i'm looking into buying a 97-99 bumper soon because a dumpster rolled into my bumper and scratched it up pretty badly. insurance money is coming soon so i'm gonna upgrade while i'm at it. i already have a grill sitting around that i bought on ebay a while back, painted my color too.

Damn, that's bad IMO. I recently bought a bumper cover because I crashed. It's an OEM Nissan bumper cover which you can buy from:
Pinnacle Nissan: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...=0&catalogid=1
...it's the cheapest anywhere. I called about 15 Nissan dealers in my area. The cheapest I found was for $207 which came to $226 with tax. Pinnacle Nissan has an OEM front bumper cover (MADE IN JAPAN ) for I believe like $155!
Yes, that's NOT including shipping. But I also believe it is something close to $180 shipped. CAN'T beat that for a brand new, OEM Nissan bumper cover MADE IN JAPAN.
I give the fitment a 10 out of 10.

If the surface is prepped properly, there shouldn't be any paint issues.

i'm thinking of getting one off of ebay but i don't think i should have it painted by them too because of my pearl white qno. would you guys say it's safe to say i'd be better off getting it painted at a local shop where they can do their best matching it and then blending it to the fenders? i just hope it's not more than $500 to paint, which it could/might be.

OK people, from what I have read here so far, I believe I've gotten the best deal IMHO. I don't mean to brag, but hear me out.
1) Bought a brand new Nissan OEM bumper (made in japan) from Pinnacle Nissan online. Price = $188 shipped
2) Had it painted by Nissan dealer bodyshop by my house. The paintjob is extremely professionally done. The bumper was even baked. Price = $152
TOTAL = $340
You may think it's a lot, but it's not. Think about it, I got brand new Nissan bumper that fits like it should, including the most professional paintjob one could possibly get for that money.

OK people, I am looking to replace both my front and rear bumper covers soon. Thanks for the info on Pinnacle Nissan.
My concern is paint matching. All of our cars are at least five years old. Darker colors especially will fade after years in the sun, right? I have a black '99 and my bumper covers are in terrible shape. I want to get a Stillen kit and new bumper covers, and paint it all (but I'm afraid it's going to cost an arm and a leg... ). In regards to paint matching, the kit is no problem because horizontal lines (e.g. between the bottom of the car and the kit) disguise color differentials a lot more than vertical lines. This is why almost all cars made have horizontal or sometimes angled lines between the bumper covers and the sheet metal (fenders in front and quarter panel in rear). I realized this last week and since then I've been taking a close look at every car I pass on the street and they all have horizontal or diagonal lines—with the notable exception of the 3rd and 4th gen Maxima! On the 4th gen, the front cover has a vertical cutoff and the rear has a diagonal cutoff that comes off of the taillight, but it's closer to vertical than horizontal. There must be a few other cars (other Nissans probably) that are similar, but I know Nissan "fixed" this issue on the 5th gen. Go take a look on the street or in the parking lot tomorrow, you'll quickly see what I mean.
So my question is, on the front especially, how do your new bumper covers look? Did the bodyshop have a hell of a time paint matching because of the vertical line issue, or was it no sweat? Take a close look at your car from all angles; often it's more noticeable than you realize. I suspect paint matching is easier with a black car like mine and I've heard that white and pearl paints are especially hard to match. I'm still concerned, though....

theres a slight chance it could be the angle of the pic also.
my old 95 bumper used to look darker/lighter than the rest of the car depending where u stood. the bumper was oem and was never painted. just sometimes it looked off.

Yeah, and I guess that proves my point: the vertical or near vertical lines show paint differences way more than horizontal lines. Could it be just the different material underneath that causes the bumper cover vs. quarter panel to look different depending on the angle? Then again, all cars have vertical lines where the doors meet, and you don't really see problems there...
