i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get the tinted license plate cover.. the one that when you're close, you can see the license plate but when you are at a distance, you cannot.. thanks

 

I have tinted shields on both of my license plates. Besides tinting my plate, it also acts as a barrier when people back into the front of my car.

I got it at my local performance shop. Where are you located?

 

Like, DSMercado said, you can get them at most performance shops. However, DISCLAIMER TIME!! They are illegal in NYS, and am sure they are illegal in quite a few other states.

 

You're right...when I got my new plates last month, there was an enclosure that said you're not supposed to put anything over the plates. I've had them on for about a year now and no problems. Luck and probaby because the tinted shields aren't super dark.

I think they're similar to tints on the windows, where it's a secondary offense. If you get pulled over for speeding, they'll bust you for speeding, tinted windows AND a tinted plate.

 

Yeah, I know that people usually don't get into too much trouble for them, but they don't come with a disclaimer that says 'for off road use only' like clear corners do. Since you can buy them at a auto parts store, I figured that I would alert him.
