Automatic Drag Racing

I have a automatic 95 Maxima. I wish it were a stick, but I can't afford a conversion right now. In the mean time, when I race people, I start in my low gear and switch into second and drive. I am sure it isn't too great for my transmission, but I was wondering just how bad it is for it.

Just know, you gotta do what you gotta do to race!

upshiftin at the correct RPM isn't bad for the tranny, downshifting is one of the worst things you can do, you burn up the clutches in the auto tranny.

that should be fine as long as you rpm match when you downshift, otherwise you burn through clutches and possible damage motor mounts.

Maximas are slow? Thats mine.

Either way, shifting by starting at first to second on an auto isnt going to do any harm, downshifting will. Downshifting down a hill will start to burn the clutches inside the transmssion... I remember my days back in Puerto Rico, there was no need to downshift even down the biggest of hills, unless you had a manual of course

dude i was racing my friend cory one time, he drive a 99 integera i think and all he has is an AEM intake. i started in 2nd in my auto. i was about half length above him and then it shifted into 2nd, and soon it was time to shift into drive. Right when i did that, my rpm drop a coupled thousand and i had to pick it up again. he basicaly passed me when that happened and ever since he is like, dude i so waxed you.

A lot of times autos can be quicker in a straight line. You can't shift faster than a computer.
Manuals are alot more fun though.
