alternators and starters

i hope this has not been covered already. but its tax season and im replacing some major components. is there any alternatives to the stock alternator and starter for a 98 maxima with a 5spd.

i remember hearing that the 2k starter is a better choice than the 4th gen starter. i could be wrong though.

any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.
thanks

2000-2001 starter part #s now supercede 95-99 starters. I bought a used 2K starter with 25K miles for $20. Starts up instantly and sounds like new. Makes a fraction of the noise my old starter made.

For alternators if you have a Cali-spec car get an alternator from a Fed spec car. Fed spec ones are cheaper and puts out slightly more amps (125 as opposed to 110 ). If you buy new from a dealer you can tell the difference by the price. The higher amp Fed spec one is around $200 whereas the Cali spec one is almost $500 more! On some sites they list them as SE or GLE/GXE etc. The cheaper of the two is what you want to get.

My car came with the 110 amp alternator and I bought a used 125 amp alterator. Works like a charm.

I forgot to mention that I only looked at the '99 Maximas for my alternator just to be certain I didn't get one affected by the recall.
