The body work needed is obvious. Mechanically, I have no idea. If you look in the third picture, the "frame" bent in and push a lot of the engine stuff inward (battery, air intake, etc) and I believe that is what caused the radiator to crack or bust somewhere.

Any ideas on a repair estimate?

Not totaled but you'll need a new hood, and fender, radiator support bar may need to be placed if its badly bent.

Radiator support bar is about $100 new
New hood (~$300)
new grill (~$50)
new fender ~200
new radiator (if its bent or broken , or leaking) ~100

paint for new hood and fender $~500

labor to install rad support bar+hood+fender = ~$300

thats about ~$1,550. this is an very rough approximation, if there is more bent/broken pieces those will need to be replaced.

Here is the estimation I am coming up with (list prices from everything nissan.com)

Hood -- $474
Bumper cover -- $307
Left Fender -- $228

Paint and paint labor for the above 3 pieces -- $800

Grill -- $205
Left headlight -- $295
Left foglight -- $201
Right foglight -- $201 (it is chipped / cracked)
Radiator support assembly -- $364 (not sure if I'll need this)
Radiator -- $499

Labor to install all pieces (including painted pieces) -- $800

Total: $4,300

(Keep in mind, these were factory pieces quoted at the list price, and I have no clue if I'm too high or too low on paint/labor/install labor prices)

I had a very similar accident as far as the pics go with a deer this fall. Ended up being just shy of 5k by the insurance adjuster, I have an I30 so I'm sure the body parts were a bit more. Thank the lord for insurance is all I have to say.

I would say that's a fair estimate, but you also have to add in there the price to put it up on a rack and pull it...that's not cheap either. Figure a couple hundred at least for that (and then another couple of hundred for the setup charge).

Expect to pay more in paint. Especially if you want it to look good. You'll either want the paint tinted to match or have it blended. I think the costs will pass $4500-5000. You're missing a bunch of misc things for labor hours.

EDIT: Took a closer look at the picture. I noticed the pinstripe on the fender, if you want it put back on it can get VERY pricey, more than you think. All I know is, pinstripes can run around $100-700 for a car. Reason is cause the body shop sometimes has to buy the pinstripe for the whole side of the car or the whole car depending on the car make. Also, the age of the car , you would want the paint either tinted, or blended. If you wanted blended, theres labor hours of taking stuff off the driver side door and the other fender. But remember, a lot of shops don't do quality paint tinting and dont match it right. So either you find a really good shop (more money overall), or find a decent shop and have them blend the Fender and driver side door.

Forgot to mention... Yes its totalled. Most likely they will throw blending and the pinstripe into the estimate, so prepare for the worst, even though I know its not what you want to hear.

I would think much more in labor cost. Plus there is alot of bent up stuff you don't see or think of either. It is going to take some effort to get every thing lined up and so on.... I guess we will find out sometime

Be sure to shop around. When I got in my accident, one guy quoted me at $4100, but I ended up saving $1000 by going to another shop. Quite the deal. As a matter of fact, my car looked just like that after my accident. What saved me a bunch of money though, was the fact that the car they took the parts from was the same color.....

Thats at least ~$6,000 with frame pull (mash & sway) setup time repair on the aprin and square the unibody. You can call some junk yards for parts, sheet metal and lights. Aftermarket fenders and a hood is available for the I30. Cornering lights, and side marker lights are also available aftermarket and are much cheaper then Infinity/Nissan. We just did a repair on a 98 I30, very similar hit to what your car has, only he took out the right side. Washer bottle, coolant reserve ect was all smashed on that car. The final bill was $6300 to put that car back on the road.

Good luck with it!

Thanks for warm wishes. Not sure if my insurance is going to foot the repair bill or total it out. Once again, it's a 1997 with 124,000 on the clock. Not sure what they are going to do.

you go with aftermarket parts it will greatly reduce the cost. majority of those parts come primed so its what we call a scratch and shoot., so you may be alright. if they do total it out see about title retainment and part it out, that will earn you a little bit of money as well as some money when you do finally send it to the crusher.
good luck.

For the UMteenth time...the car is a total LOSS....there is almost no way your insurance is going to foot the bill...aftermarket parts are the least of the worries on that car...the labor will absolutely be the most $$ part...

shrug,
perhaps, ive seen worse go for less and so its in your perspective of the pictures, if you look at it it doesnt appear that he took a full hit into the front bumper support, looks like it is all superficial outlying damage to a point IE Hood lights core support etc. The one that woudld push him over the top would be if the airbags popped, too bad you arent closer

then again what do i know lol, hell its a totla.

It's really not up to us to decide. It's up to the insurance company to see if the cost of the repair will cost over 80% of the worth of an 1997 I30 in good condition. It looks like about 6000 grand to repair. So if your I30 is worth about $8,000, it's going to be close.

D@mn, sorry to see your I30 in such ugly condition.
Everytime there's less and less I30 around.

As far as the repair goes, a decent shop will charge you $5-$6.
Most likely it's totalled.

ps. if you find all the parts in a good price range and get some cheap shop to put them on and align everything.
-take it to a goog shop to paint the whole car

that's what I would do my .02

I'm fine, thanks for asking.

I have Crawford / Cincinnati Insurance. I've been in my rental car (2004 Corolla) since Friday. The insurance adjuster called me yesterday and she said that she would be going to look at my car today to find out if it will be a total or not.

I'll put my money on over 6k. I got into "it" with my 98 SE last year, the only damage was the hood, bumper, A/C, grill and H/L's. Bill was 3k, and the fenders were not even scratched and no pulling work on the unibody.

it depends most insurance companys will just get a front clip if they can get one for cheap you might keep the car other wise it is totaled. Another trick insurance compnays use is they call down south or in the midwest Oklahoma. Parts are reall cheap there as someone said it really depends on the insurance comp. Well what ever happens i wish you the best of luck.
