No 3rd brakelight illegal?

No 3rd brakelight illegal?
My spoiler is in pretty bad shape (haze that won't come off even using various polishes and waxes, and the leg at the far right is coming up off the lid) and the trunklid has rust around some of the legs of the spoiler. I broke one of the bolts on the spoiler trying to take it off to clean up the rust so I'd have to get a new spoiler as I'm sure I couldn't get it off without breaking the rest of them. Anyway I found a trunk lid in my color for a decent price. It doesn't have a spoiler, Which is a plus IMO...no rust, and I think I'm going to get the paradox systems lip spoiler. Anyway, since I have an SE I don't have the 3rd brakelight on the rear shelf. Is this going to be a problem? What would it take to add a light? Just cutting the carpet or the metal too?
If anybody has any lip spoiler pics more from the front at a bit of a distance (so you can see the whole car) that would be appreciated. All the pics I've found using the search are either from the back or or are very close up (so you can only see the trunk).
Thanks for your help.

most older car didnt have the 3rd brake light. My 3rd brake light (spoiler) has been out for about a year now (damn I'm lazy) police have seen it out, been directly behind me for many miles, I got puled over for a headligh being out, but no mention of a 3rd brake light.
Dont think it varries from state to state but as long as you have your main brake lights You'll be fine.

i know in my state(PA) they wont pass you for inspection w/o it if your car is newer then a certain year. my 3rd brake light on my deck in my accord didnt work for some reason and that was one of the reasons they failed me. i just switched the wires from my trunk light to the brake light and it worked

yea after like 91 or sumthing not sure of exact year sometime in the early 90's all cars sold in the us had to have 3rd brake lights
my friend put a spoiler on his integra and had a light in that and in the rear window and they failed him for having 4 brake lights and all that he had to do was unplugg the one but they still failed him
i doubt you will get pulled over for it but passing inspection mite be a problem

Yeah, in the early 90's all cars had to have 3rd brake lights and in the later 90's all trucks did too.
Also mandatory were passenger side mirrors somewhere around there.
As long as you have the two main brake lights you should be alright though.
It's like having wipers that work. You're supposed to, you might fail inspection if you don't, but chances of cops bugging you for it are slim to none.

Guess I'll just leave it until next year when I need an inspection. I think I might try to fab something up using the spoiler light inside the car...could look good (different at least...we'll have to see ).
