I just got my courtesy fog light kit and i'm about to install it myself. Only problem is that i have a 95 gle, and the place that the fog light goes is blocked by a plastic surface that i have to cut out. somebody suggested that i use a heat gun to sorta melt it, and it would cut like a hot knife through a butter. Although that sounds good, that means i have to buy that Expensive heat gun... I tried a exacto knife, but that was too thin and was about to break. I need suggestions on tools!! OR, does bodyshops cut it professionally for a cheap price?? If they do, hopefully around $10-20ish?? I need help!!! If people did install it them selves for the 95-96 models, please reply!

If you don't have a heat gun, then use either a really high wattage hair dryer (>1600 W) or heat the exacto knife in a flame for a few seconds. Patience and a steady hand will get you there.

I used a utility knife that has scored lines on the blade so that you can break off the end as it dulls. I got it at Home Depot. It's still pretty hard work; I had to make multiple passes before it went all the way through.
You could probably use a hair dryer if you don't have a heat gun.

I have a 96 GLE and did it with a tool that is like a drill bit, but also has the capability of "sawing". I found this to work very well after trying with some extremely sharp knives. I didn't try the hot knife but the plastic may be a little thick for that. It's worth a try. Oh, the tool I used can be bought at most hardware stores for about $10, and it used to be on TV, I don't know if it still is. Good luck

is it easy to do the corners with the "saw"? no jagged edge?? I'm willing to pay upto 20bucks or so if a body/performace shop does this kind of service.

I am not familiar with the plastic piece you are talking about, but I've worked w/ stuff like that and I'd highly recommend having it done professionally. It could not cost very much and do not try cutting it with a heated knife. You will end up frustrated as hell and it will just be a mess.

my bad, its actually a thick rubbery part where the foglight should be placed. heated knife or heat gun sounds like big work.. I'll check price with nissan dealers and local body shops and check the prices. I dunno how they'll do it though. if its more than 25bucks at most, i'm gonna do it myself...

Ask around for a Dremel tool. They are multiuse tools that have different attachments that you can add. One of them is the band saw that cuts the hole. If you do it manually, the inside top of the hole is a bit of a problem, but remember that there is a gasket that you have that will cover the hole that you make, so it doesn't have to be perfect.

I did mine last week. If you got the complete kit, it comes with teh metal templates. Follow the supplied instructions exactly. I used a pocket knife. It needs to be very sharp. Slice away with steady even pressure at an ANGLE. Don't stick it straight through and go around with a sawing motion. Hold at an angle and make several passes until you're through. Mine looks great!
