Starter getting old?

I asked about this in the summer, got one reply, but would like to verify before I take action.

My starter isnt working quite right. Sometime I will toggle the starter, and the lights in my dash will go dim, but no noise from the starter. Ill release the key, try again, for example, it will go this time. The starter will engage and turn strong.

So the starter works strong, its just not being "toggled" 100%. What do I need to do, how much, etc.

I have a repair manual but the starter seems hard to get to. If its a risky repair/replacement than I might have the shop do it.

Pull it and re-grease it and clean the ground contacts.

I have the repair manual, and i was looking at start removal from there, I see where I should be looking, but it seems there are so many parts in the way. IE the entire intake system... Are there many things I should worry about or can i pretty much go at it and unbolt parts?

I did some more looking actually, and I found that there is a common problem of the solenoid relay.

I found a writeup for it here,
http://rdmelton.autoeducation.com/ca...h/starter.html

The writeup and diagnosis is on a 3000gt I believe, but I might want to try it anyways.

Newbie here, so I am kinda wondering if its a good idea...

Opionions?
