Should I get a "Fuel and Air Induction System Cleaning"?

I was at pennzoil getting my oil changed, and the guy there told me how I neeeded to get a Fuel and Air Induction System cleaning because my car was overdue. He reached down in the intake and showed some carbon soot that was in there near the throttle plate.
So I declined of course because every time I get an oil change they tell me I NEED something else done. Anyway I thought I'd ask if anyone thinks this would actually help, or if there's a cheaper DIY way. It's $70 from Pennzoil.

The Ad says they:
"Install one cleaning chemical in your gas tank and one in the air intake manifold"
"Clean Fuel Lines, Fuel Injectors, Intake Valves, Combustion Chamber, and Throttle plate".
-
* Maximizes Performance
* Smooth Idling
* Increased Power
* Minimizes Emissions
* Eliminates Knocking

Hmm.. .what do you think.. BS?

around most of our engine bay unless we cleaned it is dirty so hes just pulling up dirt that was there.

I've heard of those cleaning, was at the dealer and read about it and it sounds promising, How does there car run, have you ever ran some type of fluid or gotten service to clean injector. etc?

@ $70 thats cheaper that I've seen everywhere. If you can afford it and wont miss it too much I'd get it.

and let us know how it compares to before (if you get it)

Just take your intake off and clean inside the throttle body. It's very easy and helps with idling and power. Auto stores sell intake cleaner.

I would definitely try to clean your throttle body first, and get a new air filter before you go blowing 70 bucks. It costs abour 5 bucks for the throttle body cleaner, and another 6 or 7 for the filter.

What I'm guessing they would do is the throttle body cleaning (easily done check how-to's) but they would also hook up fuel injector cleaners (removing a inlet fuel line and run your engine on pressurized combustionalbe cleaner to clean the injectors) < is also better than just running pour into gas tank cleaners.. more direct cleaning

not really a must.. but a nice thing to get done, usually the results are quite well, definatly not bs

Ah.. thanks everyone. What I ended up doing was getting a throttle body spray cleaner and a bottle of fuel system cleaner to run through the gas. I'll clean off all that grime from the TB and pump it through, kind of a halfway solution but good enough.
Heh I barely passed my smog test (52 HC!) so I'll probably get the penzoil thing in a year or so.
