Spark Plugs
NGK Platinums as per the owner's manual. They are good for 60k. It also seems to be the opinion that coppers are fine but you must replace them twice as often. I am sure this is discussed in more depth in a FAQ sticky.
yes its a pain for first timers, but after doing it, next time comes around much better

I'd go with the OEM, which are NGK platinums. THey'll cost you $10-12/piece. I've not tried the copper, but they are much cheaper, even though they don't last as long, so if you don't mind changing plugs a lot they are the more economical approach. don't bother with any of the funky autozone things like the ones with 68 heads and say "SUPAR NAWZ POWAR PLUGZ" on the side

Bosch Platinum ok?
Just had VIP Auto (a chain here in New England) change my plugs. I'd asked for NGK Plat, but when I came back they'd said they were out of stock and they'd put in Bosch platinum instead -- said it was an oem equivalent, quality plug and they figured I'd be happy paying $4.50/ea vs $14 for the NGK anyway.
They are willing to change them out for NGK for free (if I pay for the parts difference, of course).
I'm wondering big a deal this is -- seems like Bosch is a decent brand too, and I'm in the middle of moving so it'd be a bit of pain to get the car back into the shop now.
Anyone run Bosch and have good/bad experiences to report?

with super high spark distributorless ignition of the maxima running the correct plug really is essential more so than any other car....cheap plugs will toast pretty quick... Incorrect plugs will most definately lead to ignition problems...someone told even told me premature coil pack failure.

it's logic, for something like plugs, go with recommended.. i didn't use platinums because it costed a lot. i like how i am running, no white smoke startups, everything is smooth...

yeah, bosch arent any good, the difference is there not engineered for the VQ motor, some people get a spastic idle and they burn out MUCH faster than any other plug if you use it in your engine. people hve varied success, but why risk it. you can use the equivalent bkr5egp which is the platinum coated or something.
The Previous owner of my car had Bosh platinum in there and i took them out and when i did my mouth hit the floor.... they were burnt to a crispy white so i took them out cleaned them up re gaped and put them back in and ran it for a week with them in that week i bought new NGK Vpower Coppers and installed them after a week of normal driving... surpised to find again they were burnt to a crispy white .... put the ngks in and after a week i took them out and found a perfect clean and normal running sparkplug.... it could just be my car .... i dont know but it made me stick with what everyone else on the org is saying STICK WITH THE OEM PLUG ..... NGK

yah, after i bought my car w/ 67K i replaced the spark plugs with bosch 4+, and they did a great job for about 8K-10K.....then i got a misfire one day after accelerating after some railroad tracks
the next day, i took out the bosch(which didn't look half bad) and put in the NGK plats and haven't had a problem since......the prob also could have been related to the fact that one of my coilpacks had broken off at the boot; but i replaced that too

Thanks for the input everyone. I do know the stickies say NGK but was curious what specifically were the implications of using other brands.
Anyway, sounds like some good reasons to ditch the Bosch. I'll take it back in and have VIP put in NGK. Now that I think about it I know I did say go with NGK copper if they didn't have any platinum, so I'm a bit annoyed, though at least they were quick to offer to swap them for free.

i swear to nGKS after what it has done for me, no white smoke EVER, under any conditions, 1st 2nd start up, pounding it etc.. it really does wonder. i have swtich to the ngk coppers vpower after previous owner used AUTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1lites..
if that doesn't do it for you, what would? because i took the car to 3-4 diff't shops and mechanics to decide what was wrong, no leaks, no nothing.. just some gay plugs.. then again it is just my experience...

I bought my car a year ago; previous owner said put Bosch Platinium 4; Now after 35000 miles will take a look at them and will have NGK Platinium in case need them. I asked around about Bosch and was told they are better for German/European car than for Japanese cars and they do not recomend them for our cars. So far car is ok; only problem is sometimes when stoping at red light car dies right away after releasing cluth; any idea what can it be? May be the spark plugs?
NGK is defintely the way to go. Just as some have said, the NGK Platinum are good for 60k, whereas the NGK copper are good for 30k. The NGK copper give a better spark at start-up but either is still good. With copper, have to change more often just as someone said.
I would def go with the ngk's. if you dont want to spend the 8-14 bucks on the platinums just go with the coppers, they shouldnt cost more than $2 a piece. as far as bosch goes it seems to be that other than vw, audi, porsche prob 9 outa 10 cars i seen runnin with them had misfire and other problems. some imediately, some after 5-10k miles.
