Missing oil??

So today i got under my car and looked for the slow leak ive been having, my guess is the filter. anyway thats not the question. what im wondering is after getting the car off the ramps and letting it sit for at least 15 minutes per the owners manual, then i went out and checked the oil level, it said i was right between the H and the L marks. I swore at the car a few time and closed the hood and went inside to leave this leak for another day. later (few hours) i went back out to add some oil and get it back to the H mark so i could drive a little ways before having to worry about my oil. i opend the hood and checked the dipstick, it read right at H, no way that was right because it was at the mid point earlier with no driving moving starting no anything goin on. alright i check it about 4 more times and each time it read right at H. i added no oil (and niether did anyone else) it just sat for a little while. Where did this oil come from? Whos got an explanation cause i need one bad im so confused.
thanks

first, are you sure you have an oil leak? if you add to much oil, that not good. if youve changed your oil recently make sure you replace the crush washer everytime.

Why are you filling it up to the H mark when the car hasn't been driven? Doesn't the oil dipstick have cold and hot not L and H?

yes im sure i have a leak and its either from the crush ring or the filter, but thats not my question.

and yes i know adding too much is no good.

but why would the reading change over a few hours from middle to full?

the oil from the galleries and walls are dripping down into your pan ever so slowly.

If you measured the first time with the car on the ramps than it will read lower than it actually is. So when you put it down and checked the dipstick again it will be higher.
