You can't remove the wood. It's not really wood. The trim peice itself is wood-colored plastic. Your best bet is to remove the trim pieces and paint them silver. There's a write-up in the mod-FAQ

Painting it would be the easiest/cheapest route. I bought the alum trim and am now removing it. The cost to replace all the wood trim with black trim is about $300 at the dealer.

A lil off topic but your e-brake boot, how is it holding at the top of you e-brake handle. It looks very firm. I bought some new boots from redline and they did not come with the wires for them and i did not have any wires from before/ becuase when i bought the car it did not have any boots.
Anyways i custom bend some wires using old coat hangers to attach the boots at the bottom onto the center floor console, now the top of both boots (shift & e-brake) are loose and i don't know what to use to hold them firm. Any Idea?

Sorry for the long post.

Oh, wait. I see you have an SE. SEs dont have wood trim from the factory. You have an aftermarket wood kit then. Those are VERY hard to remove effectively.
