Tinted Window Advice

I am soon going to get my White 97's windows tinted. I live in Iowa so its illegal to have the front ones tinted. So i was curious if people could give me some feedback on if they get pulled over a lot with their front windows tinted in the same law situation as iowa. I was thinking i wanted 30% all the way around the car. But i want to aviod as much hastle with the cops as possible. Any thoughts?

here in GA we got our tint law revoked, but before that the cut off was at 35%

i put 20% and everything was fine, cops wouldn't even notice......but when the law was still in place i put 35% on my front windshield and they started to take notice.....got pulled over for that once, but ended up not having to pay

i doubt you'd get cops on your case w/ like 35% all around, they would REALLY have to be looking for someone with tint for them to pull you over

I'd stick with 50%, 35% at the most. As long as they can see you through the tint, they probably wouldn't say too much. Make sure to get a fresh inspection sticker first though!

most of cops wouldn't pull you over for light tints. they pull you over for something else and then they can ticket you for tints as well. also u might get ticketed at check points.

Also remeber the colour of the interior will also effect how dark your tint looks. Black interior, tints looks darker, tan interior....it looks lighter. The colour of the interior will have an affect on the way what light is in the vehicle boucing (reflecting) outwards.

Im from illinois and we have the same law...no tints in the front. i actually talked to a cop about this last week outside a club. he was waiting for drunks to get in their cars and drive home, and i went over to him and asked these questions (i wasnt drunk, i was the DD):
Q: "if i get really want to get tints and i want them all around otherwise its not gonna look good. do most officers pull over just based on tints?"
A: "Some counties will be hard asses and pull you over for tints. most of us wont though. as long as, at night, i can see you through your front windows, i wouldnt give you a ticket for it, most the other guys from this county wont either. many of these new cars have tints in the fronts too, so we really dont mind. just dont get it too dark so that we cant see through the front. that'll get you a ticket."

i think he explained it pretty well. my car is pebble beige and i have a beige interior. i think 20% all around will work for me, and still be able for them to see in at night. IMO the interior color does affect the darkness, just as streetwyse said. unless you live in an area in which alot of people get pulled over for tints alone, then you should be fine at 20% around.

I think you should get tints all around and when ever you see a cop roll both of the windows down in the front ( completely down).

take it from me i spent $225 on 35% tints all the way around
(no point in tinting) and this summer i'm going to spend another $225 to change it to 20% so my advice is, get it right the first time.

Here in the land of the free you can't have tinted windows. LOL, police state that works the best is one that works the least.

I got 5% in back and 20% in front. Personally i think 50% is a waste of money. You should get either 20% or 35% up front. Ive had no problems with cops at all. Ive been pulled over but not for tint.. for speeding and they never said a word about my tint.
I've found lumar films to be one of the best out there, it doesnt turn purple or fade... its not dyed either, its mettalic.

5% darkest
15%
20%
35%
50%
70% lightest

Did i forget any tint scales?

I had the same problem when decided whether or not to get my windows tinted. The man at the auto shop said it was a bad idea to tint my fronts and that I would be taking a risk, phhhh, thats a bunch of crap.
I have had my windows tinted 20% for almost a year, and no problems, Here in Ohio, it is 50% or greater on fronts(I think) and I was pulled over twice for non-tint related problems, and the cops never even bothered to ask, or really noticed or cared. In my opinion, 20% looks good, maybe darker w/ tan interior, but you don't want much darker becasue driving at night can get difficult, especially in the rain. Maybe its just me.
Not tinting the front windows with the rest tinted looks terrible, in my opinion.
Cops aren't really going to care that much about tint unless they are *******s and have nothing better to do but bust people for tint, get it done right the first time and you won't be dissapointed!

im waiting till spring to get my tints.. but i dont know if its bad, anyway i live in NY their pretty strict about everything here ,i know people who have 5% tints all around and pretty much pays tickets every week, but i know a few other people with dark tints on the windsheild and basically have no problems with cops.. but i wouldnt risk it knowing my luck... if a cop wants to give you a ticket he will so watch out and dont do anything stupid

I have had no problems...I have 20% all the way around. I have only been pulled over twice with this car and it wasnt for the tint. When I get pulled over, I just roll down the two fron windows and turn on my domelight. Never had a cop even ask me about it. .02

i live in nebraska, and i tinted my windows legally 20 back and 35 front. I have a tan interior, and you can't even notice the tint in the front during the day light. I've had the tint on for about a year, and i also drive out to iowa pretty often, i've never been pulled over for tints. If i had a chance to redo my tints i would probably go 20 all around, or maybe 15. 35 is to light. I have a bunch of friends with 5 all around, and nobody i know ever got pulled over for just tints. The cops just like to add it up to the tab once they got you stoped, kina like seat belt in my state. So just gon't give the pigs a reason, and you should be good.

LOL, exactly what i'm doing when a curiser pulls up to the side. Is kind of chilly during the cold weather. Once you have your windows down, they can't ask u to roll-up the windows to check the tint. Is the law in NYC!! Make sure the windows is all the way down and they'll look for other stuff.

Tint during winter? I just had my backwindow done. If I have any problem with it, i'll just bring it back to the shop. Make sure you get a receipt when you put on your tint, just to prove that you got it there.

i live in Utah- and we got no rights. supposedly we got no law in the back but i been to court to fight that before i got my max. i was legal limit (no limit-rear, and 50%-front) and i got off. when i got my max i got 7% all the way around (no tint on windshield) and i havent had no problems. you cant see **** and i love it. it looks so good with the black pillars on my pearl white car. plus if i ever get pulled over the windows roll down so fast im not even worried. *** THE PO-PO!

oh yeah tinting in winter is fine- just takes longer for the bubbles to disappear- like 2-3 weeks longer. my girl just got it done and her lexus looks hella tight. no probs. and it's been like 25-30 degree highs in UT

out here in NY, they sometimes do checkpoints JUST for tints... ive went through them twice here but i havent had my tints on.... i had all my windows down and they made me roll them up... every other person was getting tickets...so dont think you can just get away with it, cuz sooner or later your gonna have your windows rolled up....

another thing i forgot to mention- no matter what color interior you have, if you're fortunate enough to have a sunroof- open sunroof light will make your front and sometimes rear windows look lighter on a sunny day even my 7%. and i dont know about the whole dr's note thing- but if i have any probs i'll def try that little white lie.

What is the reasoning behind the tint law anyways? You have a house with curtains shouldn't you also have a car that people can't peer into?
