I wouldn't get a raised limiter with the stock manifold but you can take advantage of the A/F maps and timing.

Don't the A/F and timing changes only make a difference at partial throttle? So if you floor your car now, it's not going to go any faster than it did before? Is that true or am I wrong? I hope I'm wrong because what would the point be then....

All I can tell you is that my midrange power is back (full throttle or half throttle). With the ECU and VI, this thing pulls and pulls up to redline.

So the secret is out. I heard from one of the local guys that this has been done for a while, and he got a different rev limit. Also, you guys are overpaying.

A while is about 3 months like I said and no one had it before that point from TS. How do I know? Because I've been working with them for the past year on it. It really was no secret that this was happening because I've told people what I was doing. Do a search.

I also didn't see anyone step up to the plate when we were wanting a raised limit out for 4th Gens and I personally asked Danny (at the time) to start this project back in 2003. I sent them my ECU and they went to work.

There were other 4th gen people working with TechnoSquare that maybe you weren't aware of or told about. When Danny left, he took a lot of info with him, and some guys at TS were clueless about certain issues. Brian didn't even know how to remove a maxima ECU when he first worked on my car after Danny left.
And I know for sure that the ECU can be had for less, as my friend has bought 3 of them for less than the $410 mentioned above. But that was probably because we just drive down there personally. Even more rediculous is what they charge to do the 5th gen ECU upgrades, which don't require soldering in new hardware, or even opening the case.
In any case, the higher rev limiter now makes the 4th gens equal to the DE-K's., so it will be interesting to see what the future holds.

I personally asked your partner at *** to go down there when Cheston was away on business. He agreed so we could get this moving. Cheston finally got his car down there and they cracked it. I don't know how many other people helped out and I remember no one said anything back in 2003 about TS upgrading the limiter. Shyte was no secret and I take the credit for initiating the whole project.

The price is really up to what TS wants to charge the individual. We can't say you can get it for cheaper if TS doesn't agree to it.

Guys, the price for the ECU upgrade is $380 but I wanted it next day so I paid $30 for next day service. My bad if anyone misunderstood me.

I emailed them about 3-4hrs ago and still haven't heard anything. Calling them didn't get me a response either. I doubt it'll be any less than the $600 they have on the site, which is a shame.

Except for the extra couple hundred pounds the 5th gens have.

4th gen with DE-K IM and ECU is a N/A beast.

Someone refresh my mind please. I read something about it but it was a long time ago. What would happen if I put the 96 auto ecu in my 96 5spd? I know that apparently the ECU blips the throttle during shifts but what else? Will I get codes as well? I'm only asking cause if TS doesn't have the 5spd rev limit cracked yet, I'm willing to send my auto ecu if no big problems would arise from me using it.

I remember Mike's problem but again I remember that there weren't that many problems with the auto ECU in a manual car. I dunno, I might as well just swap the ECUs just to check it out.

Whoever is going to get this mod will be very happy. I can't believe how much power this car recovers with the ECU. Anyone have a dyno comparision of the TS or JWT ECU against stock with the VI?

The impresive part of what Requin6 posted is where you will be in the power band (for a 5spd at least). Look at the two curves, w/o the JWT ECU from 4.5k-6.5K and w/ the JWT ECU from 5K-7K. The average HP for the JWT ECU in that range is 188.43 and the stock ECU is 178.59.

Yes, they would. I don't remeber if I have seen a TS or JWT ECU comparison with a stock manifold or not. I think I have. I don't thinkt the power differences between would be much different at all, just the shape of the curve in two places. In the mid range the MEVI looses these two bumps of torque that the stock manifold creates. These two bumps are where the famous mid range torque loss occurs. the MEVI kind lops off these two small peaks. The other place would obviously be the power after 5.5K rpm's or so, where the stock manifold starts to drop in power. But the difference in the two curves would be about the same.

The dyno below is for back-to-back runs of a stock 96 and TS modified 96 ecu. 98 max with stock IM. Obviously no extended rev limiter. The stock ecu was from a GXE hence the speed limiter kicked in prior to redline in 4th.



Timing on this ecu was further advanced from the standard TS unit. I have no idea what timing Deezo would have ended up with.

Thanks for posting the dynos guys. I've been looking for a good data logger for my laptop (don't care for the Palm) so I can see what my engine is doing now. My coworker (a SpecV guy) things I should really get some dyno time. I'd rather run to the track though.
