Cutting springs

im poor, i drive an se, and it looks like a truck. as soon as i have the moeny, i plan on buying some D2s, but i figured, my mechanic said my struts are already bad, so why not just cut a coil off the springs and atleast not be embarrassed everytime i look at my car. aside from damaging my already dead struts, is this gonn abe harmful in any way. i know everyones gonna say just do it right, but i will as soon as i have the money, this is just a temporary thing, so what do you guys think?

i would never cut springs but if your broke and want to try it go ahead. You might see more problems ahead from doing that.

cutting springs can make you bottom out consistently, imagine being lowered say 2 inches and still having the same amount of suspension travel.

by that i meant, you will all tell me to "do it right", as in get good suspension. and yeah, i guess the springs might bottom out a lot, but i though the SE springs were a lot stiffer than other maxi springs, so i thought maybe it wouldnt be that bad... besides, i dont mind the thought of dead kittens, those little turds trashed my house.

Ii will be embarrasing to drive as it bounces down the road like a funny car. Cutting the spring makes the rate go up. (stiffer) You already have bad struts and by cutting the springs you'll be putting even more load on them, which they will not be able to control.

Add it all up, you'll have a horrable riding and handling vehicle.

EDIT: If your mechanic gave you the idea of cutting your springs, please find another mechanic, preferably one with a bit more knowledge.

dont do it. cutting springs will just make the situation worse. i recommend just waiting for whatever suspension mods your gonna do. youll be much happier once you do that. do try to go through shortcuts when you know whats the right path.

honestly imo if you want to cut springs dont do it to a maxima go out and buy a honda for that crap. THIS IS A MAXIMA. Its not worth it your going to have to do twice amount of work in the long run. just wait and do everything at once.

I saw a Maxima that was very low and was bouncing around like crazy. If that's what it looks like when you cut your springs don't do it. It will be more embarrising to have your car bouncing like a jack in the box than the stock height. I know I was laughing at the guy.

yeah don't cut it.. last time i saw a max with cut springs, it was bouncing up and down all over the road. (downtown SF pothole filled streets made the effect rather hilarious) I felt sorry for that guy.

ok ok, i wont cut springs, no my mechanic didnt tell me to cut em, just a thought that popped into my head. if it didnt mess up the ride too bad, id do it just to kill a kitten, but screw it, id rather have a kitten than a bad riding car...

Cutting or heating and rebending springs is possibly the most dangerous thing you can do. At some point the springs will fail and then you will lose control. That is if you don't lose it before hand and crash. I understand not having the money for setting up your car correctly, but I'd rather see you safe.
