Just bought my first Max!!

Hey all, FNG here. I just bought my first Max and was wondering what I should look out for. I have a 96 Max SE 5sp with 96011 miles. It has some aftermarket peices on it (CAI, new clutch, APEXi exhaust...) Is there anything that I should get checked right away? I'm planning on getting a compression test, fluid test etc. Just wondering... Thanks, Mav

The clutch is REAL touchy... Apparently, the guy I bought it from put an ACT Stage 2 clutch in and it is different (to put it mildly) other that that... It's great!!!

Congrats on the New car. I wonder why he put a stage 2 clutch on the car

Thats cool you have a few mods on there already. I'd also advise reading the stickies you'll pick up alot of information that will save you from even having to post and ask most general questions.

If you dont know the state of the car or when last certain parts were changed, i'd just do a 60K style tune up on the car.

sparks
air filter
fuel filter
clean throttle body, clean idle air control valve
run a cleaner thru the system (seafoam or something else)
clean or replace PCV valve
top off fluids
radiator flush
tranny flush.

good luck

A buddy of mine is a regional trainer for Jiffy Lube and he is going to le me know when he is at the store near my work and basically give my car the works (for free). Also, the guy I bought the car from saved all the reciepts for all the parts installed on the car... so that's a big bonus.

lucky you, well I'd get that tune up and look over those receipts so you know when what was done, but since he'd tune up for free much as well get as much changed so you wont have to worry about much maintinance (besides oil and tire roation) for a while.

Yes, the exhaust is the WS. I LOVE the way it sounds.... Almost nothing at idle (almost sounds stock) but when you hit the gas, It really growls. Not like the pissed off bumblebee on crack. it has a nice deep sound. That and the CAI, the car sounds mean...

So the exhaust is not ricey at all? i know some people on here say that their exhaust sounds deep and not ricey, but when they post clips up, it sounds like a fartcan civic!
can you post some videos of the exhaust if possible?

Congrats on the Maxima. I just sold my '97 SE 5sp about a week ago. It was a sad day for me since I put nearly 150k miles on that car. Worst of all, I'm now driving my wife's Honda CRV. With any luck, maybe I'll be able to get a 2008 maxima when they first come out.
