whining sound when a/c is on?
#7
is your stereo on when it happens? does the sound get louder/higher pitched when you go into higher rpms? make sure the sound is coming from the engine bay and not your speakers. if you have a 12v wire anywhere close to an amp rca it can make that sound....

Again, This has been discussed about, I have the same turbo noise that he's talking about. You can def tell its coming from the engine bay and not the radio. From what I can pin point, I replaced my tensioner pully, replaced my belts and alternator that noise is still there. I know I need To buy an a/c compressor because when I turn it on it just makes a lot of noises which means the bearings are going. Simply put I had a million tech's look at it. Each on telling me it can be the flex part of the y-pipe another guy said rear valve cover gasket because it was leaking, So I replaced that And It still didnt go away. From a radio noise to this turbo noise its very obvious it's coming from the engine not from the speakers.

Yea I know what your talking about i have the same problem. Im praying its the A/c Compressor. Im in the process of trying to find one. i did replace my tensioner pully, Both belts and alternator. Put on the mevi, Replaced the rear valve cover gasket the only last 2 things it can be is the power steering pump or a/c compressor. We should keep each other up 2 date.

its not the belts this noise is due to bearings. My belts are as tight as they should be. This noise happend 4k after I got my belts and alternator replaced. Got it checked by a few techs they told me it was the Tensioner pully. Got that replaced. Noise still there. The only thing i didnt do is turn on the engine while the belts were off. Its more or less like a vac/turbo noise. Belts will make a noise at idle. This noise only happens when you press on the gas. For me it might die out at 3 1/2 rpms. Im guessing exhaust noise over powers it. I know its either the power steering pump or the A/c compressor.

I have the same "whinning" sound that you guys are talking about. With all accessories off (this includes the stereo), the sound goes away the second I turn off the A/C. I first noticed this when I bought the car about 3.5 years ago. I figured my A/C compressor would die off soon, but it has not quit cranking out cool air in this hot humid Texas weather.
