want to buy a new exhaust system -
ok, well since I know what im talking about in this area for the most part....I would go to your local exhaust guy, get 2.5" piping for better flow get a nice muffler or tip on the back, and put a gairly decent size resonator on if, IF NOT keeping the stock one. You will have better air, a slight rumble and a brand new cat back system. good luck.
Budget Exhaust
I would buy a the custom exhaust from BUDGET, for the same amount of money you spend on Cattman or Stillen. You can get a Y-pipe, Mid-pipe w/ resonator, and for the rear end I would have the exhaust shop custom make the pipe (less than 2 feet of piping) and weld on a new muffler of your choice. If you want a quiet exhaust w/ good air flow, I would recommend finding the biggest muffler with a preforated straight through design that can fit in the back end of the maxima. Otherwise you can get a chambered muffler but it's going to really hurt exhaust flow. Also Stillen's exhaust system uses 2 1/4'' piping, don't know about Cattman.
For the best flowing exhaust while being very quiet: y pipe, stock cat, good resonated b pipe, stock muffler or 5th gen muffler (dual tip, slightly better flowing and sounding)
"high flow" cat or test pipe, unresonated b pipe, and aftermarket muffler will just make it sound louder and give it a more raspy tone. The sound will be noticable while the performance will not when changing these.

I just got my exhaust done, I do notice a little more acceleration which is fine with me. I just did the standard 2.25" pipe rather than 2.5" pipe. How much of a difference is there in performance between the two sizes? I have no intention on changing it.
the new "quiet catback" from WSP is just what the doctor ordered if you don't mind dealing with fitment issues....(in other words don't install it yourself, get a good shop to put it on)....other than the fitment issues, the quiet catback is the quietest setup I have heard today and was flow tested to be equal with the magnaflow SS series mufflers which are straight through...as the muffler with the "quiet catback" is, just it has a much larger chamber volume to quiet things down, but still has the striaight through design for maximum flow/performance...in either case, the louder ones don't necessarily mean more performance on the maxima...just poorly designed or quiet wasn't a factor they cared about at design/concept...
call Dallas at WSP and ask him about the decibel readings and flow test ratings as he has compared them to all the other maxima catbacks out there...you will be very impressed! you also get a choice of six tips to be welded on the muffler and the resonator is as large as it gets on the b pipe section, the muffler is perforated straight through design....keep that bundled to a cat and not a straight pipe, and you will have a very quiet setup that flows as well as the much louder magnaflow/dynomax/greddy setups...
good luck!
