weird gas gauge experience today

so today i got in my car like any other day (only thing i did out of the ordinary was put wiper fluid in after i started the car cuz i ran out yesterday) well anyway when i sit in my car i look at my gauge cluster an notice my gas needle falling i knew it was about half tank as of last night

it went all the way down till the needle hit the aluminum bezel and stopped

i left my neighbor hood and it stayed down for a while then it went up to about half tank.... so i went to the gas station told him to fill it up and it was only like 6 gallons less than half a tank and the needle went back up to full

anyone ever seen anything like this before

i do have indiglo gauges and i put leds in behind my needles but they have been on for a few months now and i havent had any of that apart

if it keeps doing it, it could be the fuel level sensor getting ready to go out, all it is is a variable resistor.

I have a problem similar to that, its take a good couple of minutes for my needle to move. I will pump a full tank of gas it will take maybe 2-3 minutes to go to full mark. Its kinda annoying when you have a 1/4 tank of gas and you go around a turn and its empty. One more problem my fuel light doesn't work, i checked the bulb and replaced it still doesn't work. ???? Any help>??

This has happened to me a few times as well. Never while driving though, only when idling. The needle for the fuel fell BELOW the E.. and by below, I mean wayyyy down...

at least your needle goes up. after a cold start up and idle, mine drops when driving. its like a day late to register how much gas is left in the tank from the previous nite. stupid piece of crap.

a way to make it goe up is.. well when u pumping gass ur tech. supposed to turn car off.. anyway.. once u pump gass turn of car and turn key to spot before we pull it out.. then turn it to acc and it goes up fast.. i turn of the car when pumping unless im in a real hurry.. like my girl requests my prescence when shes home alone... .. wink wink.. hehehe

hmm and i doubt the gas type makes a diff... but yea my car tasted regular once when i got stranded near LIU and i left my debit card at home.. and used the emergency gas money in the car for a book... and had no money... = ( i paid for 4.50 worth of gas in quarters i use for the parkin gmeter..... then i gunned it home ( not like driving hard) jsut steady.. at 10:30 pm.. so i dont hit traffic.... ... never agian.. now i make shure theres a 20$ in the car... all the time..

regular.. my car is too good for it.. hehehe..

Well i replaced the bulb still theres no warning light. Not that i care about it but its something that bothers me. Well my friend has 1998 maxima and his needle doesn't take couple minutes to go to fuel.
