has anyone ever don this to their maxi?
im fixing to do mine and was looking for a brain to pick on the subject
seems pretty straight foward, i got some photo copies from the dealer out of the manual, seems they dont make this manual anymore,six weeks to get a photocopied manual from nissan.so if anyone has done this let me know

 

No prblem. SHouldnt take more than an hour or two.

factory pays 7.6 hours just to do the updated timing chain tensioner and guide
so an hour is a little off

 

The dealer also charges over 3 hours to do the knock sensor, when most on here can do it in 0.25 hr

 

this seems pretty simple just wanna be sure i do it correctly,i worked in dealerships for 20 years i have never heard of an operation that took 30 minutes the factory would bill itself under warranty for three hours,so somethin there aint right.warranty pays 7.6 hours to do the lower chain tensioner and guide
so something is amiss.they may have more procudures than just swapping the sensor,i havent read up on that so i dont know.

 

Why are you "repairing" the cams and timing chain? Usually just the tensioner needs to be replaced.

 

For the KS install they remove upper and lower intake manifold while we take the "short cut" way to do it. I am sure there are a few short cuts that we take for this this install too. And they probably just want more labor money since it is not the easiest thing to work on.

My tensioner is making some nice grinding sounds on startup so I will have to do this eventually too.

 

mine does it all the time not as bad once it warms up but if your under the hood it sounds bad bad bad
the reason im doing this is because the car has 180k on it
i went to replace the waterpump and the timming chain is worn smooth out
and im sure the cam chains are too so while i have the cover off to replace the lower tensioner and guide im gonna do it all while im there i dont want to do it twice .my wife drives this car and makes trips to kansas city ,i dont want a call from her in the middle of kansas with a broken car. been there done that.

I was just stating the fact that the FSM isn't always the bible to go by.

My car has 227k and is fine, only had to replace the tensioner.

The chain should last the life of the car. I don;t think you need to replace the cams and/or sprockets themselves.

 

im not replacing the cams
just the chains and tensioners, i was blown away that this doesnt come in a kit
usually when you change chains you change sprokets ,nissan says this isnt neccessary so im not replacing them although this goes against everything ive ever learned. i just want to be done with the car and no problemos later.

 

There is a kit from www.thepartsbin.com, comes with chains and tensioners, just not sprockets.
All you need is th crank seal.

Don;t bother to change the sprockets, all you really need here is the tensioner.
