Me, slimer, i30tmiked, bobbydash, furbiss, maximumhp, brad92se, boosted maxima, stevechicagosc, broaner (soon) are the ones I can think of off the top of my head in the area. most of those guys are in chicago but the rest of us are within an hour or two of chicago. i am sure there are more boosted maximas in every large city than just the ones who post on this board. probably lots of lurkers around.

 

It's almost ready to drive again. Yay! Cartech FMU and 370cc injectors were taken out, 660cc injectors, SARD FPR, Z32 MAF, boost controller, 35 shot NX kit, and intercooler sprayer were put in. So hopefully we'll figure out my battery drain issue and get to dyno early next week. I'm hoping for close to 400whp at 12 psi, and if they tune looks safe, we'll spray it and see.

PR motor mounts and Cobra rotors were just installed, and I should have new wheels next month, so this summer should be fun.

Shadow, is that a modifiedstillen charge pipe before the Maf?

I'm really contemplating fabbing a 3" setup from the getgo. Anyone know what angle the bend before the MAF is? Would it be better to do a silicone bent coupling or have it as one pipe? I imagine the coupling would allow for flexibility but also gives another place to pop off or leak.

No, we made all the piping, we CNC'd all the flanges at my shop. That's usually why people think it's a Stillen piece, it does follow the general path.

It is annoying to get a 3" bend in there from the TB to the MAF. Most off the shelf 3" bends have too big of a radius in the bend. We had to reposition it a bunch of times along with the MAF position to get us the room. The pipe to the MAF with the BOV on it is 2.5" and the end is just flared to 3" to meet the MAF.

I'm getting a new intercooler soon, and I've been contemplating a full 3" pipe setup, but the way mine is routed, I don't know how I'd get some of those bends to fit in there with the tight radiuses.

 

I've been wondering for a while why 3" charge pipe is better. I know its been proven but it would be cool if someone could explain how the power loss from pressure loss is less than the gain in flow. I thought compressed air has different flow characteristics that draw air.

 

Can't wait to see y'all video tape your races especially Shadow's.

 

I think it has something to do with friction losses from the walls of the pipe. I'll have to look up my old fluid dynamics books to brush up on it.

For me, the pressure loss isn't too much of an issue, the turbo would just spin slightly higher to get me to the same boost level. I'm mostly leaning toward 3" because the intercooler I'm looking at is only available with 3" inlet/outlets and I don't want to bother with reducers that might disrupt flow.

and my thoughts on Nealoc comments....i woudl get a wideband first and tune a good tune will keep from engine failures......jsut buy a tranny from a junkyard....and have it slowly being built before u blow the stocker.....but u will have a good tune and running safely

 

 

No those are my Stock Stillen Cromex'd Pipeing...I have 3" piping that went out today for Cromex...$25 a foot..not bad

IMO if its under the hood and it doesn't help you go faster or cool air temps its not worth it.
