Greddy Sp2 Install problem... quick
My car is at a muffler shop right now. I have an SP2 cat-back and a 1996 maxima, I believe the cat-back is the correct model for the 96. The guy there said my O2 sensors are a small diameter, and the holes in the Sp2 for the 02 sensors are very big holes. I wasnt sent any adaptors or anything with the exhaust. How did everyone else put their 02 sensors in?

there shouldn't be any difference at all, should be the same diameter, at least it was on my 95.
Also, shouldn't it only be one o2 sensor?
And yeah, I have never heard of/seen an adapter myself.

You should not have to touch your o2 sensor if your a 96. Your rear o2 should be on the cat, not the b-pipe. Now, the Greddy comes with a hole on the b-pipe for an o2 sensor, although it is way to big for our cars. If you indeed have a 96 and your o2 sensor is on the cat then just tell him to put a bolt in there to plug it. If he does not have one then don't worry abou it and stop by a hardware store and get one later.

Ok, so now the problem is that I bought a P.O.S. catalytic converter from ebay that has no holes in it for the 02 sensor, even though it said it was for a 96 maxima. If anyone else has a cat like this, how did you hook up the rear 02 sensor? Did you put it in the B-pipe? If I just leave the rear one unhooked to anything will my car perform badly?

There should be a bung for the O2 sensor on the B Pipe. I don't know which model you ordered, but I bought a 97-99 model, and it had a bung right on the B Pipe about 4 inches to the rear of the cat converter. The only other thing I can recommend is buying an adapter from the nissan dealer which will run you about 30 bucks...The adapter goes between the b pipe and the cat converter, and has a bung for O2 sensor.

if you leave it dangling and just plug the holes (what I did cause I messed up the threads on my o2 sensor), you'll throw a code every 2k miles or so. Just make sure you secure it better than I did, as mine eventually came loose from the zip ties, and proceeded to drag along the ground for a few thousand miles. End result, constant code. Took it off and it was ground down pretty nicely.

I guess you could splice an O2 sensor into the existing wiring that will fit the hole in the B pipe.

Hey blueice I had the same problem with the ebay cat (test pipe actually) nice quality and all but no bung but thats not a problem at all.. Have the shop find the right size nut, drill a hole and weld it to the cat....least thats what I did and I haven't had any problems with the o2 sensor.

For the straight pipe you can do that, i dont know if that would work for an actual cat convertor though.
Not sure if its a good idea to drill into a funtioning cat. I dont know what the exact layout is inside but i would imagine you would knock pieces loose by drilling into it.

Flavor_24/7 you're right I should have been clearer...The test pipe I had was resonated and I didn't want to drill into the area that had the mesh type insert to reduce noise and then there is the cat that has the platnium mesh **** inside it that you probably wouldn't want to drill into too. Luckily there was about a 1/2" to an 1" of unadulterated metal that I drilled into in the front of the pipe (touching the y-pipe) and everything worked out and I didn't have to drill and ruin anything. Hopefully the cat has a similar situation where you can drill into an area that is safe. Talk with the mechanics they'll have ideas and know what to do.
