what about our top end?

When you find them, lemme know so I can have um too. I like the flame throwing exhausts especially.

youve got to be kidding
youre def right about those preludes. Their H22s put out serious hp/liter - thats what was so attractive when I thought about swapping one into my accord (besides the fact that it fits right in w/ only replacing the driver side motor mount) I would have had 200 to the wheels but the cost of that versus buying a maxima and already starting w/ similar power stock just didnt make sense. But defintely watch out for those preludes - the supercharged ones have the potential to dominate on our cars.

oh really? do you happen to have that write up? i would like to read that, it would be an interesting read. somehow i always wondered why vtec was so crazy as people say it is. there are some slow out there but really fast ones out there too.
what interests me the most is that even though we have so much more power, how a car with vtec, specially a 4 banger can beat us, besides for them being lighter than we.

I hope you guys are talking about a vtec against a stock maxima. I have a hard time believing a Maxima with header/ypipe, catback, and mevi still getting owned by a vtec. If that is so, then that is one admirable piece of technology honda has.

well when you try to compare like this theres alot of factors that play into "what will be faster than what". Bottom line is that the H22 make alot of horsepower for a 2.2L engine and running a SC they can be very sick - especially when you factor in power to weight ratios. They are also geared better than an auto (which is not surprise). No i have great faith in the Max - which is why i bought one over swapping in that engine. IMO A manual max with MEVI and basic boltons would give SC prelude a run for its money off the line but still get owned top end. Now boost your max - thats a whole different story...............

This came to mind when I was reading your last post. That maxima got spanked, over and over again. Isn't that maxima a 3.5 or is the 2k2 still on 3.0 VQ?

i believe its 3.5 but someone correct if im wrong
really IMO, thats the only Honda (besides an S2000 and such) that can be competitive with a max w/out spending a TON of money. thats why i went with the max over my accord - i would have had to have put probably 3 times the amount of money into my accord to for it to compare to what my max will be eventually (turboed w/ much boost ) that prelude if memory serves me right only ran 6 PSI, and IMO for it to run much higher than that it would have taken alot of money for engine components and tuning and such (mostly due to its high 11:1 CR) Those H22s can easily be NA beasts tho.

Oh and learn how vtec works, cause really, it’s quite an amazing technology.
I drive a 93 Prelude vtec.

I remember when Stevtec first came on the .org and he did all the comparisons on vtec vs. VQ...
At the tender age of what, 16(?), I read them and was like OMG wtf NOOB VQ > *.
Then I made intakes for maximas.
And then came the day I bought a Honda... why? Cause it was a HELL of a lot more fun to drive and better suited for my purposes (read: NASA), and I learned, about Vtec, iVtec, and other car technologies. I was amazed... I never knew Vtec was actually quite amazing. Without vtec my car would drop ~30whp (educated guess), so don't tell me it doesn't do anything.
VQ is an awesome motor.
VTEC is a great technology in some awesome motors (H22, B18, K20, etc.. )
End of my pointless story.
