Replacing oil pan gaskets/oil pressure sending unit
Replacing oil pan gaskets/oil pressure sending unit
anyone ever replaced their own oil pan gaskets or oil pressure sending unit?? If so was it hard or take long?? Anyone have a write-up?? the haynes manual most times isn't detailed enough, and tells you to do unnecessary things> Thanks
are you replacing to 2 crescent shaped gaskets, it willl be an involved job. as the book states you have to remove the lower an upper oil pans.
disconnect the oxygen sensors
support the vehicle (jackstands/ramps/shop-lift)
support the transmission
remove the A/C compressor and the bracket that attaches it to the engine
remove the engine crossmember
remove the front exhaust pipe (y pipe)
drain/save the tranny fluid do not reinstall the tranny drian plug (yet)
remove the tranny-to-upper oil pan bolts (4?)
remove the nuts for the lower oil pan and then take it off
remove the nuts for the upper oil pan and then take it off; most of them are
on the outside of the oil pan but there are a few inside it, 2 holding the oil
strainer/pickup and 1 or 2 more
if the upper pan does not come loose, make sure you removed all of the bolts, the put a flathead screwdriver in the 2 notches that are provided.
use a gasket scraper and clean all of the mating surfaces.
get the rear main seal retainer gasket (the larger of the 2) and apply a bead of rtv automotive silicone (nissan orange) to the inside of it. install the seal to the bottom of the ream main seal retainer (line up the notches) and hold it there until the silicone will hold it in place properly without to much play or movement.
do the same for the front gasket. (smaller of the two) you will see where it goes at the bottom of the block and behind the main pulley.
once you have completed that, you are ready for the reinstallation of the upper an lower oil pan.
this what i remember from personal experience.
