ES mounts installed

One of the best things I have done to the car (besides the turbo or course)

First of all, both my front and rear mounts were shot. The rubber around the bolt hand completely seperated from the rest of the mount. My drive train was very sloppy. So others might not get the same results as me.

Like many other 5spd owners, at a complete stop I would have to double clutch or shift from 2nd to 1st in order to get my car into 1st gear. I would have to do this more than half the time. I usually could not get into first gear when rolling either, I would have to be almost completely stopped. It has been that way for so long I had just gotten used to it.

Since I put the ES mounts in I have rarely had to double clutch or go into second gear in order to get the car into first. I can also get into first gear while rolling much easier.

Drive train slop is gone. No more cluncking when shifting. Down shifts are much smoother.

Added vibrtation is very, very minimal.

One of the best things I have done for driveabilitiy.

Glad to hear that.

I as well have that problem where I sometimes have to shift to 2nd then 1st, not too often, but more than I'd like to do. Getting in first when going more than 4mph sometimes will never happen.

Good post gives me something to think about.

How hard was it for you to change the mounts. I read Kelvo's write up on changing them and it sounds pretty hard to do. My car has the same thing happening trying to get it into gear. Also, where did you get your mounts at?

Got them from Cattman. Had them pressed in for $37. Took about 30 min to install. Would have been faster but my turbo piping got in the way a bit. I was using air tools though.

The way to do it is to drop the whole cross member with the mounts attached then replace the mounts and bolt the whole thing back up.

That doesn't sound too bad. It would probably take me alot longer though, because I'm not that great at working on cars. Most of the time on my car I have to go into 3rd or 4th gear to get into first gear other wise it wont go into gear. It will go in if I push hard on the shifter when stopped. It sounds like the same sort of trouble you were having.

Can't gaurantee that motor mounts will solve it though.

were you able to see that the rubber was bad while the mounts were still on the car? or did you have them off and then see they were bad?

Where Did you get these motor mounts? I want to replace my front and rear one too. All I hear is cluncking when I shift into gears and when I put it into reverse its just a bang. bang. sound. I replaced my rear engine mount about 4k ago Im guessing its shot again... How much were they? Dealer wanted 128 dollars for the rear and 160 for the front. Dont know why they are diff prices.

Where they like this Mike? Did you put the big rubber things back on? I didn't. I hope that isn't bad.

Motocross, no its rather difficult to tell how bad of shape they're in until you get it out. The big rubber washer blocks you from viewing what their status is.

SMX, you are getting ripped off. Either fill the broken one or get these. Filling is the cheaper and easier option and not really the less quality option IMO. I think each method is equally good.

I could see that the rubber was cracked, but did not realize it was completely seperated until I had the cross member droped when I did my clutch.

One of the MMs on my parts car were completely seperated like that one. Mine were pretty much shot too.

I30tMikeD, I am glad you were able to find some and you like them so much. They are definitely a good mod.

I am sure that filling them is good too but this doesn't take a week to dry while you need a spare set or you can't drive your car.

The shaking is minimal as long as you have a smooth idle. If something is wrong then you know about it.

yep just put mine in last friday night and my rear mount was completely shot. this should help me with putting some power down on to the track instead of just spinning tires. I love my ES Mounts so far.
