Caliper Paint

My local Advanced Auto store was selling Duplicolor caliper paint on clearance sale last weekend. Sets were selling for under $2.00 each so I had to pick-up a few sets. Has anybody used this stuff? What is the quality? If it is known for flaking or running then I won't bother. If anybody has pictures then please post them.

Thanks.

if u are trying to get the silver color of the caliper. I'd remove the calipers and degrease them. They will look good as new. If you paint them most of the time under hard braking the paint will flake. I have a friend that tried it and after 2 months his calipers look like crap. Good Luck

yeah...maybe even buy new calipers if you want them to look right. paint doesnt stick too long to dirt, rust and grease.

Maybe they should be cleaned first. Just use some brake cleaner and a wire brush. Paint wouldnt even stick to your fenders if it wasnt prep'd correctly.

If you do a good prep job, and it is quality paint (primarily heat resistance), as long as you don't physically chip the paint off, it'll stay on. I've done this before on another car. 5+ years later, ever single chip in the paint was my fault. Either a tool, or the rim hit the caliper and chipped the paint. It never came off on its own.

Testors model enamel paint works well, and there are no spray cans to make mistakes with. Even holds up with light tracking.

I used VFT Caliper paint. But I agree with the rest. Prep work is every thing! If it is not prep'ed the right way the paint anit gonna stick for a long time.

The duplicolor kit is a good choice. I have had the red on my calipers for 2 months and they still look like I just painted them, you just need to clean the brake dust often.

You'll be fine as look as you degrease, wire brush, and minor grinding in the hard to get areas. The paint will then stick like a pro...

Good luck.

I checked your cardomain site and saw some good pictures of your calipers. I have the same color maxima and the red looks better than I thought.

Thanks.

BTW - What shade is your window tint?

I used just regular engine enamel. Its lasted for over 3 years and still looks good,.. when I clean my calipers.
Its like Dubbya stated. Its all in the prep work.
The paint will only look as good as whats under it.
Clean the calipers really well woth brake cleaner and if needed a wire brush.
