HOWTO: new twist on dome light LED
HOWTO: new twist on dome light LED
I wanted to do my dome light, but I didn't want to lose the normal white light to use when I wanted it. I just wanted it to light up blue like my doors when I opened them and stuff, and then still be able to use the white light in the dome without the blue for stuff when I wanted. Here's how I did it:
I used a 13/64" drill bit to make my holes for the 5mm LEDs and it worked perfect, just for reference. I followed wariow's instructions for the whole thing except for the following changes:
1) Desolder the ground wire that runs from the plug to the switch from the switch. Its the one closest to the end of the switch by itself:

2) Attach your LED negative wires to that ground wire, and follow Wariow's instructions for the rest:

Hope this helps anyone looking to do the same thing. Have fun with it!

Looks good.
You could have used one of these bulbs with the leds inside of it already...
The pictures do not do it justice. It actually glows quite bright.
Its definately noticable from outside.

i cant wait till i finish wiring up my dome light; i managed to get 17 leds in that thing. i figured i might as well not waste any of the 50 leds that i got so i stuffed as many as i could in the dome light. also i heard that if you sand down the tips of the leds then it will disperse the light better- what grit sand paper would you use for that?
your dome looks good by the way
