I have heard that you can reset your ECU. What exactly does that do? If you don't have an error code, will resetting the ECU make your car run better. For example if your car pings or has some type of problem, will resetting the ECU help?

No it just tells the car to forget that the code existed, and then the car will later on down the road if the problem exist.. contact the ECU and tell it their is still a problem..

see sometimes the ECU trips and the light comes on.. but the problem goes away on its own.. could have been bad gas, gas cap open, car running lean a that time, could be anything.. the next day the car could be fine.. when you reset the ECU the car has to tell the ECU again the problem is still existent.. if as in the senario before the problem is gone.. the car will not trip the ecu and you will know the problem has gone..

so to stop rambling.. resetting the ecu doesn't fix the problem, it just tells you if the problem still exists.. and sometimes more codes will come back later on to pin point the problem
