Anyone cut coils on Tein S Techs? Sprint owners step in also.

I just put on my new Tein S Tech springs and I have about a 2.5 finer gap in front and about 3.5 in the rear, which I would like to even out to a 2.5 finger gap all around. I know a bunch of S tech owners have had the same results, and am wondering if anyone has cut the coils?

Sprint owners I know have and I am wondering what I need to do? How many coils should I cut?, where should I cut the coils, top/bottom of spring? Lastly what should I use to cut the coils? I was thing a dremel with a cutoff wheel but am not sure how good that will work.

Also has anyone had any drawbacks to cutting the coils in the springs? What about cutting the front coils to give a 2 finger gap all around? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

-Nick

On my other Max I cut 2 coils off the rear. Not ver noticeable cuz I never sat in the back, but I was also on stock struts so it was very bouncy, but not harsh.

The drop was A+

Did you cut the top or bottom coils on the spring? And what did you use to cut the actual spring?

Thanks,

-Nick

I cut the top, but I doubt it matters - We used chain cutters (BIG OLE clippers)

It does matter. A LOT. Cut only dead coils, that is the coils that touch one another when the spring is completely uncompressed. This way you are not changing the spring's characteristics (rate, travel, etc), only the ride height. When you do cut it off, be sure to put some anti-sieze or paint the end so that it does not rust. Do NOT cut one of your progressive coils, that would be a boo boo. I cut my Sprints so I know what I'm talkin about.

yea im about the get the teins w/ tokico's and i dono whut 2 do about the drop, my car is lowered already, but struts are all blown, and springs are worn out, becuase i cut them about 2 years ago, youll hate yourself for cutting them becuase of how much it affects the ride.. u payed for teins and u dont get thier full performance because of cutting the springs, eventually youll be like i wasted my money god dammit. i hate how itts gonna be such a small drop, but ill live w/ it, look at sig for pics with drop on cut springs

i wouldn't suggest cutting the springs.. I did on my sprints, and regret doing that. I cut 1.25 coils of the back springs, and that reduced my wheel travel to about 1" or so. When someone sits on the back, my car bottoms out constantly.. I wouldn't suggest it..

cutting springs=bad...each brand of spring is designed to be the lentght that it is with as many coils as it has.....if u want low and dont care about ride quality or handling buy some Weapon R Coilovers

I cut my Sprints down 1 and 3/4 coils in the rear to make my drop perfect(mainly because i have no audio equipment or anything in the trunk) I just used a dermel which took about 20min per spring to cut, but the end result was worth the time spent.

ya i cut 1 coil in the rear on my sprints. It sit perfect( in my opinion) and havent noticed any difference in the ride. Mine has never bottomed out on me before. I used a hacksaw to cut mine, and yes it took a loooooooong time but it was worth it.

I have cut a bunch of springs all with a roto-zip. It takes like all of 30 seconds.

I cut the bottom 2 coils off my front Intrax to make the ride even. I swear the ride was the same. But I still dont recommend it. Too many problems.....cracking, lack of tension, bottoming out, etc.

My suggestion to you is to buy Intrax rear springs.

Oh and anyone with a 2.0" drop has pretty much NO wheel travel with stock style struts, trust me.
