it could happen to you...

Is your car over 100,000 miles?
It seems like your loosing oil but there is not sign from where?
Does your engine speed increase but your car is not going fast?
You may want to check your rear oil seal it could be broke or damage and
It may be leaking into your transmission; this may cause your transmission and/or clutch
To don’t work properly

My car was “burning or leaking” oil but there where no sign of it…
A couple weeks ago when I drove it to do my oil change they told me that my rear oil seal was leaking and my transmission fluid was really bad…so I decide to don’t due anything at the time and wait because I was more worried about that the car wasn’t going fast when I accelerate…I didn’t know at the time that all this was relate until I got my HAYNES repair manual and decide to look into some of the “symptoms” that I knew where happening to the car…I just wish I would have the book earlier…now I will pay for a whole new clutch set to replace my rear oil seal; all this is around 1,000 and 1,200 dollars depends of where your locate.
Buy a repair manual (This would help you get a better idea how our cars work, and how to take better care of them)
If you notice anything wrong with your car no matter how minimum look or sound, take it to a specialist is cheaper to pay up to $100 for a check up, than $1,000 for a repair that could it cost you $100 or $200 or you could it be able to do it.
I been a member of the org for at least 12 to 16 months and I have learn a lot from it and from everybody that post here, I know most of us like our cars because of they are reliable and we don’t need to make many modifications to them to turn them into that car that would cough the attention of people on the street without been “rice”, there are people that turn them into a drag machine just because we love speed; either way if we are member of the org is for the same reason because we love our Nissan’s no matter if is our daily driving car or just or favorite toy.
I would like to thank everybody that has post a reply to any of the threads I have create until today,

To finish I would like to say that I’m a proud member of org.

Thank you for an articulate, succinct analysis of your situation. Your grasp of the English language is truly impressive, lol!

PS I like the color of your car.

So what if his english is not great, you ucan understand what he is trying to get at. He is simply trying to help others out by letting them know of his own experience. BTW, 1000-1200 is a bit much for the clutch. you can buy an OEM clutch for about 200 total from Pinnacle Nissan. Labor shouldnt be more than about 400 or so, and since the tranny is down anyway, the rear main seal is right there.

looking at and understanding your owners manual is also a good thing. It will tell you when and what types of maintenance your car needs....like that you should change your tranny fluid every 30K....

using a little oil is common....as much as a quart or quart and a half over 3000 miles is nothing to worry about.

I've never added an ounce of oil to my Maxima between oil changes. At what time should I consider using a quart or a quart and a half over 3000 miles as being normal?

My car has 57,800 mostly highway miles on it and I change the oil every 3,750 miles.

And by the way, I was complimenting the author of the thread on one hand and teasing him a little on the other. No disrespect was intended. Anyone who would stand up and write such a lengthy article under the circumstances deserves credit. Go back and read what I said carefully.

When you get to 150,000.

....anything newer from detroit will use that much by the time it hits 40K...GM considers a quart every 1000 miles "normal" for warranty purposes....liars. I promise your maixima uses some oil too...ALL cars do...some oil is intended to leak past the valve seals for lubrication, some blows past the rings or is deposited on the cylinder walls as the piston strokes and is combusted. In the best cases (ie: nissan honda toyota) this amount is a pint or a little less in 3000 miles. The allowable capacity range for your engine is a full quart, so no, you don't have to add any now...most people neglect to even check it.

I saw a lot of threads on the various the forums I'm addicted to about oil consumption, so I decided to take a somewhat more scientific approach. I measured the oil that came out of my engine after a regular 3,000 mile oil change. Overall I lost four ounces, which amounts to about 1/8 of a quart...and this is on an engine with more than 200,000 miles on it. So as far as I'm concerned, losing enough oil to require adding it between changes is not normal. If a car "normally" uses oil, (VW's do it like oil is going out of style)...well, I think that speaks for itself in terms of design and build quality.
