!Emergency! brake experts help me please ..

omg this is a nightmare...tried replacing back rotor and pads today...after the new rotor was put on..went to compress the piston but wouldnt compress, even with the special rear compressor tool...seems as if the piston is bad, we took the whole thing off and tried hard to compress it but it wouldnt budge..so my uncle somehow took the piston apart and fixed it(so we thought)...so we put it all back together and took it for a test drive...seemed fine..but 2 or 3 miles later theres a loud rubbing noise coming from the back brake area...is it a bad piston?...anyone know what would cause this?...can a new piston be bought at an autoparts store or do I need to buy from Nissan...PLEASE help me im stuck in jersey

they don't compress, you have to turn them in... just like a screw turn them in...

I can't help you if you took it apart though..

Did you check to see if your slider pins were moving freely?

If your piston is stuck or your slider pin is jammed the wrong way, it will continue to press the pad on the rotor.

I changed my rear calipers a couple of weekends ago, $90 driver, $60 passenger from autozone w/ core return.

yes pocketrocket the caliper slider pins were all greased up and move freely....im not sure why the pads are rubbing but Im thinking the main brake piston is bad or something....cause OMG i forgot to say this-the old rotor had a serious flaw-the pad was only rubbing the rotor on like 3/4 inch of the rotor surface-there should have been more surface area contact between the rotor and pad...you can tell something was really wrong

Just bring them into autozone and get new calipers before you ruin all your new pads and such. I know on mine the pistons themself were all rusted out and would not move freely at all.

TWIST IT!!!

You can't compress a rear caliper!! You must twist it using the correct tool!!! Mine were slightly resistant, enough that I'm glad I had the tool. Needlenose pliers would have been very difficult.

Autozone had them, but many service counter guys don't have a clue what it is.

Autozone will loan them out to (you pay for the tool first, <$40, then you return it to get a refund). If they have no idea what you're talking about, this is the part number that showed up on my receipt:

#298604 27111 DISC BRAKE CAL $35.00 + tax

Thanx a million. I'll try some robogrips but i doubt they'll work; if not autozone a right down the street from me.

I had a similar problem and found it was cheaper to have the calipers rebuilt. After that was done, no more noises.

ThisMaxIsTight - You need to replace your rear calipers as they are binding up inside. Like some have suggested, go to AutoZone and take your old calipers with you so you don't have to pay the core charge. You should replace them in pairs for uniform braking.

not a good idea to use robogrips
you dont want to score or scratch the piston at all because it could cause damage to the seals if it gets scratched

buy the special tool for $10 at any auto parts store or use needle nose pliers carefully
