I have a stock 95 Max Se. Recently I've been hearing something that sounds like "bees in a can" I DO NOT have a y pipe and the sound is very loud. It seems like my stick shift is vibrating a bit more too. The sound gets louder with higher rpms when I'm stopped. At highway speeds i can't really hear it. After driving the car for about 12 miles on the highway, the sound seems to go away when I'm at idle. Anyone have any Ideas? Heat Shield?

A loose heat shield can make a wide variety of rattling or buzzing sounds. One way to approach this diagnosis problem is to go to a muffler shop and have them put the car up on a lift with the engine running and a "driver" behind the wheel. The "driver" can rev the engine while you walk around under the car, listtening, and pressing on anything which seems loose. Do the pressing with a tool to avoid burning yourself.

You might be able to do this investigation in your own driveway if you have a good floor jack and four large (6-ton) jackstands. You don't need 6-ton for the weight of the Maxima, you need them because the 6-ton units will support the car at a greater height than the more common 3-ton jackstands.

thanks Daniel b...that's what I'm probably going to do

I wanted to clarify the sound. I think it actually sounds more like someone in the shower when I'm in the next room. Know what I mean. I guess water running through pipes in a house. Anyone else have any thoughts
