can an ECTS make engine loud?

can an ECTS make engine loud?
i have a 0103 code...can that cause the engine to make weird noises? and how do I replace it? do i just take the old one out and slip the new one in?

It might cause ping if it constantly reports a cool running engine.

To replace it, just unscrew the old one and install the new one.
